A 30-year-old self-employed Stanleytown, New Amsterdam, Berbice, man who asked the police to ‘do a thing for yuh boy’ after he was found in possession with suspected forged Guyana $5,000 notes’ currency was arrested on Saturday after a stop and search exercise in front of the Fort Wellington Police Station in West Berbice.
A police press statement said that during the ‘stop and search’ exercise, a white motor car bearing license plate number PTT 9098 overtook several vehicles on the solid double lines in full view of the ranks and was stopped. One of the police ranks informed the driver of the offence and asked for his relevant documents, to which he refused. The driver then began behaving in a disorderly manner and was instructed to park in the Fort Wellington Police Station compound.
When questioned, the driver identified himself as 30-year-old Kenio Thomason of Lot 39 Stanleytown, New Amsterdam, Berbice. A search of the car in Thomason’s presence revealed nothing illegal. A search was then conducted on Thomason and a quantity of suspected forged Guyana $5,000 notes’ currency was found. As Thomason was being informed of the offence committed he grabbed the suspected forged currency from the hands of one of the ranks and ran to the back of the Fort Wellington Police Station. Ranks gave chase and saw him throwing the suspected forged currency into a clump of bushes.
The police press statement said ranks repossessed the suspected forged currency and arrested Thomason. A count of the forged currency in Thomason’s presence amounted to $95,000. Thomason was again told of the offence committed, arrested, and cautioned. He replied: “Officer, I just trying a thing because me girl just get a baby and things tight, do a thing for yuh boy nah.” The suspected forged currency was photographed, marked, sealed, and lodged in his presence. Thomason was placed into custody and is slated to be charged.
