The Golden Jaguars final two matches in League B of the CONCACAF Nations League will be staged at the Estadio Olímpico Félix Sánchez in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, with members of the team’s local contingent departing local shores today and tomorrow, respectively.
Guyana has a perfect 4-0 record to sit atop the standings in Group D. The Guyanese, who defeated Antigua and Barbuda [5-1], the Bahamas [3-2], and Puerto Rico [3-1, 3-1], will simply need a draw in either of their final two fixtures against the Bahamas or Antigua and Barbuda, respectively, to seal their place in League A.
Guyana will face off against the Bahamas on November 18th before ending their campaign against Antigua and Barbuda on November 21st.
According to a source close to the federation who spoke on the condition of anonymity, “Several members of the local contingent will depart tomorrow [today], while the other members of the team will leave on Tuesday [tomorrow]. Due to injuries, a few players have been drafted in, but it’s pretty much the same roster that was selected against Puerto Rico.”
According to CONCACAF, a format change was implemented for the 2023–2024 edition, which resulted in no relegation of teams following the end of the 2022–2023 season. League A has been increased from 12 to 16 teams and will feature a quarterfinal section. The 12 lowest-ranked teams in League A will feature in a group stage comprising two pools of six, with the resulting group winner and runner-up advancing to the elimination section alongside the USA, Mexico, Canada, and Costa Rica. The quarterfinal fixtures will utilise a home-and-away format. The fifth and sixth-placed teams at the end of the group stage in League A will be relegated. As such, Haiti, Grenada, Curacao, and El Salvador have been relegated from League A.
Meanwhile, League C has been reduced from 12 to nine teams. The competing nations will be divided into three groups of three, with the resulting group winners and the best second-placed team in the division advancing to League B.
