Mambas upset traditional giant Ravens by a 47-45 score when the ‘One Guyana’ Basketball League continued on Saturday evening at the National Gymnasium, Mandela Avenue. Jonathan Pooran and Stephon Josiah recorded 12 points apiece in the win, while Brandon Bento and Judah Stephney supported with seven and six points each.
For the loser, Shamar Huntley scored 16 points, while Ryan Stephney, Darcel Harris, and Owan Walton scored nine, six, and five points each.
The first quartet, which set the tone for the eventual low-scoring encounter, ended 9-6 in favour of the Mambas. The Ravens marginally reduced the deficit in the second stanza, outscoring their opponent 15-14 to trail 21-23 at the halftime interval. However, Mambas responded in the third period, netting 14 points while restricting Ravens to 10 to enter the fourth quarter ahead at 37-33.
The Mambas defence then withstood the offensive push of the Ravens to record the deserved win, as they were marginally outscored 10-12. Meanwhile, the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) and Colts secured lopsided wins. The GDF unit dismantled Caimans 77–31. Quincy Wright scored the most with 30 points, while Devon Fraser was the next best scorer with 22 points. Adding 13 points was Kevin Richards. For the loser, Akeem Miggins netted 12 points.
Similarly, the Colts crushed the Nets 81-49. Shelroy Thomas led the rout with 23 points, while Shane Webster, Richard Telford, and Domitri Rankin chipped in with 13, eight, and eight points, respectively. On the other side, Shaquille Hescott recorded 21 points, while Dennis Niles scored 10 points.
