GPL linesman hospitalized after suffering electrical shocks

A Guyana Power and Light (GPL) linesman suffered electrical shocks after he came into contact with a live wire while doing maintenance work at Vreed-en-Hoop, West Coast Demerara, on Saturday. Injured is Ishwar Persaud, a 49-year-old linesman employed with GPL and attached to the company’s Vreed-en-Hoop branch.

According to a police report, Persaud with a GPL crew conducting maintenance work in the Vreed-en-Hoop Stelling Road when he came into contact with the live wire which left him hanging in an unconscious state on a pole. He was removed by co-workers and rushed to the West Demerara Regional Hospital where he received medical attention. Persaud remains hospitalized where his condition is listed as stable.
