Minister of Home Affairs Robeson Benn met 74 trainees at the Guyana Fire Service Training Centre, Leonora during a recent impromptu visit there; he also called in at the Anna Regina Fire Station, a Home Affairs ministry release stated.
The purpose of the visits was to encourage and assess the readiness and operational effectiveness of these essential facilities, the release said. It added that the visits underscored the government’s commitment to understanding and fortifying the country’s emergency response infrastructure.
While at the Anna Regina Fire Station, Benn gained insight into the daily activities, challenges, and successes of the station. This, the release stated, allowed him to gain a deeper understanding of the station’s capabilities and the support it provides to the community. He also expressed appreciation for the dedicated efforts of the fire service personnel, while acknowledging the crucial role they play in ensuring public safety and responding to emergencies promptly and efficiently, it added.
At the training school, the release said, Benn emphasised the critical responsibilities and high expectations placed on the trainees as future fire service personnel. He also emphasised the need for dedication, preparedness, and a strong sense of duty.
Benn also spoke to the significance of their role in safeguarding the community, and encouraged them to strive for excellence in their training and future duties, the release added.
