Seemingly inspired by its recent encounter with officials of the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) during the latter’s recent visit to Essequibo, the Region Three Chamber of Commerce would appear to be seeking practical ways of rendering itself relevant to the community that it serves. The Stabroek Business’ visit to the region several weeks ago to cover the encounter between members of the business community there and a visiting delegation from the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) had revealed several concerns including a keenness on the part of residents, notably young people, to secure gainful employment.
Several weeks later, the Regional Chamber is taking matters into its own hands by staging a Job Fair on Saturday November 26 at the West Demerara Secondary school. Earlier this week, Stabroek Business spoke with the Chamber’s Public Relations Officer, Theon Alleyne, who disclosed that the event will be seeking to put prospective employers and job seekers together in the hope of creating mutually rewarding employer/employee partnerships. Region Three’s Chamber President, Premendra Parsram, was quoted last week as saying that the Chamber was particularly keen “to extend an invitation to the vibrant business community and enterprising job seekers to the Job Fair,” an event which he sees as responding to one of the Region’s challenges whilst serving as a catalyst for the growth of the region.
Parasram says that the Essequibo Chamber is also seeking to offer a platform for companies and potential employees to engage in exchanges out of which could come “partnerships” that could redound to both parties as well as to Region Three’s economy. The Job Fair informs that the types of jobs that are available in the region include “technical, vocational and professional positions” in the “agro sector and “positions in the energy sector.” He also disclosed that attendees at the Fair should enquire about “full time and part time positions in the service industry”.
