Guyana’s contingent of 177 departs for Suriname to compete in IGG

Team Guyana’s contingent of 177 strong departed these shores yesterday for neighbouring Paramaribo, Suriname, where they will compete in eight disciplines for top honours at the Inter-Guiana Games (IGG) over the course of the next three days.

After arriving in Suriname, the contingent took part in the opening ceremony while the respective officials had their technical meeting. Team Guyana will get into action today in the disciplines of basketball (male and female), chess, tennis, football, futsal, and athletics. The athletics team’s medal pursuit will be spearheaded by sprinters Tianna Springer and Ezekiel Newton.

Meanwhile, the swim team and chess team will dive into action tomorrow. The complete list of the teams is below.
