Gladiators, get ready! The Guyana Amateur Powerlifting Federation (GAPLF) has pencilled December 10 as the date to host its flagship National Senior Championships.
This is according to its official Facebook page.
According to the recent post, the federation will host the event at the St. Stanislaus College auditorium from 9:00 a.m.
The upcoming championship will be a treat for both athletes and fans since it will bring together well-trained lifters and create a euphoric atmosphere for supporters present.
As is customary, the event will also provide the necessary mark from which the national lifters will gauge their progress ahead of international assignments next year.
Lifters should note that the registration fee is $2500, and weigh-in time starts at 7:00 a.m. sharp since the first lift of the competition starts two hours later. There would be an entrance fee charged to patrons of $1000, while the Federation would be hosting a fund-raising barbeque at the same venue to help the powerlifting federation offset expenses to compete at upcoming international competitions.
The championship will be sponsored by Jamie McDonald, CEO of Fitness Express, Household Plus, Windjammer Hotel, and the Office of the Prime Minister, for which the federation is grateful.
Approximately 25 lifters, headed by Carlos Peterson-Griffith and Keisha Abrigo, are scheduled to chalk up and compete on the platform.
Additionally, the federation would be exploring the possibility of hosting a referee clinic, facilitated by International Referee Gordon Spencer, at the same venue the day prior.
