Rameshwar Persaud, a 27-year-old truck driver from Farm Track, Madewini, was charged yesterday with causing death by dangerous driving.
Persaud appeared at the Diamond Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Judy Latchman where the charge was read to him. He pleaded not guilty and was placed on $1.5 million bail.
Persaud was the driver of motor lorry (GA 7213) which Stabroek News had previously reported was allegedly being reversed on the Farm Track (access road) at Madewini, East Bank Demerara, and crushed 63-year-old pedestrian, Arnold De Santos, to death. The incident occurred on Novem-ber 16th at about 18:15 hours.
