Opposition urges Gov’t to do more to assuage fears over Venezuelan claim

The Opposition has expressed its disapproval at what it sees as the failure of the government to adequately address the fears and concerns of Guyanese, especially Essequibians stemming from Vene-zuela’s claim to Essequibo.

A statement yesterday from the Office of the Opposition Leader noted that it has observed “with deep concern, the unsettling wave of social media commentary permeating our society, leaving the Guyanese people in a state of unease.” It concluded that this “glaring” absence of decisive action from the government in addressing these concerns raises questions about its commitment to bringing comfort and instilling confidence among the citizens, particularly those residing in Essequibo.
