Opposition adherence to the whispers from oil and gas

Dear Editor,

Any leader/leadership of a main opposition party anywhere in this world that acquiesces to the advice/directive of the ruling government and international players in the oil and gas industry are not only selfish and uncaring but are also betrayers of the oppressed people they are tasked with representing.

My party, the PNCR, recently held its General Council. It was pressured to hold that important democratic decision making process because Congress and elections in the party are long overdue.  Everything else was discussed except a timeframe for Congress and elections. A source told me, you don’t know “who is who” in the party anymore. Even those who have an interest in the leadership of the party seem to be adhering to the whispers of players in the oil and gas industry and that influence seems to stretch across the factions.

Not even Roysdale Forde and Amanza Walton Desir, who are favourites in any leadership contest in the party, have the decency or respect for our hundreds of thousands of supporters to say to them anything about the foregoing. Why? The apt excuse that the border controversy takes precedence over anything else is hogwash. We can have Congress and elections and that is most needed right now given the silence, sloth and uncertainties existent in the party at present. My mother used to say that when yuh own flea bite yuh, you well bit.

I have long realised that my focus is to make the party of Linden Forbes Samson Burnham strong, impenetrable and ever ready and to fight for the liberation of the poor. I remain steadfast in those pursuit even when friends turn enemies.

Sincerely,

Norman Browne
