Michael Gilkes, a 19-year-old labourer of Den Amstel, West Coast Demerara, was arrested yesterday morning at the Vreed-en-Hoop Stelling after he was allegedly found with 1,108 grams of cannabis in his possession.
A police press release stated that Gilkes was arrested at around 10:30 am by police ranks on beat duty. Gilkes was seen acting suspiciously with a black plastic bag in his hand. Police ranks approached him and identified themselves. A search was conducted on the bag and a quantity of leaves, seeds and stems of cannabis were found. The cannabis was weighed and amounted to 1,108 grams.
The teenager was arrested and escorted to the Vreed-en-Hoop Police Station. He was placed in custody and is slated to be charged.
