I have always been vocal about the many great strides by the PPP/C but not on the Camp Road passport office

Dear Editor,

Kindly allow me to vent my dissatisfaction of the services by the Georgetown branch that deals with our passports! Please note I say Georgetown because I am very much aware we have other branches in Berbice and other areas in Guyana.

Just yesterday (Thursday 24.11.2023) my husband went to renew his passport, he left home at 7am to get this done and joined a line from 7:30am and as I write this letter he still has not managed to pay the fees necessary as he’s still in the line. Me, being a good wife, went to check on him and take a beverage since he told me that the area they are in is quite hot. To my dismay and disbelief there were kids and the elderly in the passport office fanning with envelopes to feel some sort of relief. It is quite unfortunate that in this day and age Guyanese have to sit and wait so long to get things done. It begs the question are we lacking human resources? Can’t we implement digital systems for such?

I have always been vocal about the many great strides the PPP/C has made but today I cannot commend this and it should be rectified. Is it that persons are traveling from other areas with passport offices? I understand we all have to tow the line and let the system work but we deserve better. I’d recommend opening an office on the East Coast corridor, as well as the East Bank corridor. This will ease the traffic at Camp Street’s location and even create employment.

Sincerely,

Tanya Niamatali
