More officers of the Ministry of Labour are now certified to work on Floating Production, Storage and Offloading oil platforms in the Atlantic.
A release from the ministry said that they were certified in the Tropical Basic Off-shore Safety Induction and Emergency Training (T-BOSIET) 5501, and the Off-shore Petroleum Industry Training Organi-zation (OPITO) Compressed Air Emer-gency Breathing System (CA-EBS) 5903.
The team comprised Maxean Bess, Senior Occupational Safety and Health Officer; Nazmoon Prittipaul Jaipaul, Occupational Safety and Health officer; and Labour Officers, Ravi Persaud and Emanuel Ramdhial.
The three-day training, held from November 20-22, 2023, at ODITC/3t EnerMech’s Training Centre of Excellence at Lusignan, East Coast Demerara, aimed to introduce the officers to specific safety issues relevant to offshore installations, as well as to equip them with the basic emergency response knowledge and skills for traveling to and from offshore installations by helicopter in a tropical environment.
The release said that the officers were taught how to identify the potential environmental impacts of offshore oil and gas installations, principles of managing safety on offshore installations, as well as the hazard effects and consequences, their associated risks, and how they are controlled among other.
The CA-EBS ID training is designed to ensure that the team gains the necessary knowledge and understanding of the particular hazards and properties of a Compressed Air Emergency Breathing System and appropriate practical emergency response actions to take should the requirement for emergency deployment arise.
