The Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development has announced the commencement of major rehabilitation works at the East Ruimveldt Market within the next two weeks.
The Department of Public Information (DPI) said that this decision follows a site visit by Minister within the ministry, Anand Persaud, who engaged vendors on Friday.
During his visit, DPI said that Persaud was struck by the deplorable condition of the market and recognising the urgent need for improvement, has prioritised its rehabilitation.
In a meeting with vendors on Friday he asked if they were in agreement. He said that engineers had visited to assess the situation at the market. He added that bids would be invited and the Bill of Quantities developed.
DPI said that the works would also include lighting and a brush cutter would be provided to vendors to help maintain the area.
