Guyanese basketball players suffer consecutive collegiate defeats

Guyanese national basketball player Israel Yaw incurred consecutive losses for the season as the University of Maryland went down to Liberty University and Notre Dame, respectively.

Yaw lost 62-99 yesterday at the Liberty Arena in Virginia. He tallied four points and three rebounds in 14 minutes of play. On Wednesday at the Purcell Pavilion at the Joyce Centre in Indiana, Yaw lost 55-75. On this occasion, the former Plaisance Guardians standout recorded five points, two rebounds, one block, and a steal in 16 minutes.

Presently, Yaw sports a 2-4 record. To date, Yaw has recorded wins against the University of Pennsylvania and Cairn University, while he has also suffered defeats at the hands of Longwood University and Temple University.

Yaw attended ASA College and appeared in 22 matches. He averaged 12.5 points and 8.4 rebounds per game during his junior-collegiate career.
