The Lady Jaguars U17 side overcame a 1-2 deficit to defeat Suriname 3-2 in the opening match of their four-game U17 home and away international series, which commenced yesterday at the Eve Leary Stadium in Kingston, Georgetown.
Falling behind to conversions from Loe-A-Fue-Samanie and Klijngarde Shanora in the third and 19th minutes, the hosts reduced the deficit heading into the halftime interval as Tanya De Vair netted in the 23rd minute.
The comeback was then realised in the second stanza, as Nydel Nelson recorded a double in the 37th and 67th minutes, respectively. The second match in the series will be staged today at the same venue.
The event was conceptualised as a means to provide international competition to the U17 female programme after the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) withdrew from the 2023 CONCACFA U17 qualifiers. The return series will be staged on December 16th and 17th in Suriname.
