A US citizen who was nabbed in a narcotic sting operation was yesterday granted bail by Magistrate Rhondel Weever.
Twenty-one year old Daniel Islam appeared before Magistrate Weever at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court charged with the possession of a prohibited substance. It was alleged that on November 24, 2023 he had in his possession 132 grams of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking. Islam pleaded not guilty.
Islam’s defence attorney told the magistrate that the vehicle in which his client and two others were in at the time was approached by police who were on a sting operation, and that his client was in the back seat. He said that only his client was arrested. He further said that the police assaulted his client and forced him to make involuntary statements. His lawyer also claimed that the officers took Islam to an apartment where they believed he resided and found nothing. He said that he was denied access to speak to his client when he visited the police station where he was being held.
