Twenty-four-year-old Godfrey Cox of Lot 19 Princes Street, Charlestown, appeared before acting Chief Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court yesterday charged with robbery under arms.

It is alleged that on November 24, while at King Street, Georgetown, and armed with a knife, he robbed Maleki Clarke of one Samsung Galaxy A71 valued $56,000 and one pair of Samsung earphones valued $2,000 for a total value of $58,000.

Cox pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The court prosecutor objected to bail over the seriousness and prevalence of the offence and the fact that Cox

attempted to resist arrest which resulted in an altercation ensued between him and the police.

The prosecution also revealed that Cox has had previous brushes with the law having appeared before Magistrate Leron Daly in 2018 for armed robbery, Magistrate Ann McLennan in January 2019 for larceny, and Magistrate Clive Nurse in December 2019 for robbery.

In addition, he was also released from prison less than a month ago after serving a sentence of four years and two months for simple larceny.

In light of the prosecution’s concerns, the magistrate refused bail and Cox was remanded to prison.

The matter has been adjourned to December 20 for statements.
