Persons still in custody over Unity accountant’s murder – police

As the probe deepens into the murder of an accountant at Unity, Mahaica, East Coast Demerara, Commander of Regional Division 4 (C), Senior Superintendent Khali Pareshram has confirmed that persons are in custody in relation to the murder.

“There are still persons in custody and the matter is still being investigated,” Commander Pareshram said.

The identity of the persons in custody are unknown.

The house where the dead woman was discovered

Chooromanie Tulsie, a 38-year-old female accountant of Lot 26 Unity, Mahaica, East Coast Demerara, was murdered on November 19, sometime between 7.30 pm and 8 am the next morning by an unknown person or persons.

The woman’s body was found at around 8.00 am in the lower flat of her house, lying on the ground with a piece of cloth stuffed inside her mouth and a knife stuck at the centre of her throat. The body was clad in a multi-coloured night dress.

The body was escorted to the Nabaclis Hospital where Tulsie was pronounced dead and then transported to the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home to await a post-mortem examination. The area was canvassed by investigators for CCTV cameras while several persons were interviewed

The victim’s sister believes that the perpetrator might have been known to the woman as nothing was stolen.
