Dear Editor,
It is suggested that Venezuela’s President is ramping up the Venezuela-Guyana border controversy to divert Venezuelans’ attention from their internal hardships to win political support at Venezuela’s upcoming elections.
Would it not be better for countries, like the USA and UK , who are supporting Guyana’s border rights, to offer incentives to improve the lives of Venezuelans, and give President Maduro the chance to show he is doing good for the people?
Would this not also give the millions of fair-minded Venezuelans pride in their country’s respect for the law?
Would incentives not give those who brought about the border controversy, the win-win chance to correct the wrong they did to Guyana in the 60’s?
Would the incentives not create cooperation instead of hostility?
Would the incentives not also build willingness to work peacefully and beneficially for the future?
It is not always right to start off drawing battle-lines. Sometimes, all that is needed, is a genuine helping hand.
Yours faithfully,
Faiyaz Alli
