Twenty-three year-old Elijah Inshanally appeared at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Rhondel Weever yesterday charged with armed robberies.
It is alleged that on December 3, 2023, while at Mc Doom Public Road and armed with a knife, he robbed Ronaldo Ramlall of $6,420 and $10 USD equivalent to $2000 totalling $8,420. It is also alleged that on the same day he robbed Christopher Nicolas of $25,000. Inshanally pleaded not guilty to both charges.
The prosecution objected to bail due to the gravity of offence, and further informed the court that Inshanally lives a stone’s throw away from the complainants leading the prosecution to believe that Inshanally may try to tamper with the witnesses. The prosecution also revealed that the defendant was apprehended by public-spirited persons.
Inshanally told the magistrate that on the day in question, he was riding his bike when he noticed the victims were being robbed by someone. He said he stopped to watch and the robbers made their way to him and assaulted him. He told the magistrate that he was previously arrested and is currently before the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court (Six) for fighting. The magistrate refused Inshanally bail and remanded him to prison until December 18, 2023, pending statements and fixture.
