Westminster Secondary student slashed in neck at school

A 14-year-old third form student of Westminster Secondary School in La Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara, was slashed in the neck by another student on Wednesday during a card game.

The child’s aunt, Lisa Scipio, told Stabroek New yesterday that the family received a phone call at about 12.19 hours on Wednesday from someone at the school who stated that her nephew had suffered an injury to the neck and they were trying to get transportation to take him to the hospital. Scipio recalled that little information was given and as a result they tried to reconnect with the person for clarity on the incident but that proved futile.  The family rushed to the West Demerara Regional Hospital where the 14-year-old was seen by a doctor and received 18 stiches in the neck, before being sent home. Scipio aunt disclosed that the doctors said that the wound was one centimetre away from an artery that if severed, could have resulted in his death.
