Region Six APNU Councillor Collin Moore is calling for improved “customer service” from medical professionals within the region’s health care system and according to him while other sections of the health system have seen improvement this aspect remains the same.
Moore speaking at the Regional Democratic Council of Region Six’s last statutory meeting on Thursday pointed out that while there has been “some sort of improvement in the health sector infrastructure” there must be improvement in the “customer service.”
He said, that there are medical professionals within the system that “will talk to you and you get more sick.”
Residents of Region Six have long complained about the attitude of medical professionals within the system during their visits to the various health facilities.
Moore on Thursday said, “I would like us to look at that aspect in the new year.”
Furthermore, he stressed that training can be offered to improve this throughout the health system in the region.
Meanwhile, works are continuing at the sites where two state-of-the-art hospitals will be built in Region Six, as the government moves to improve the delivery of healthcare.
One of the new hospitals will be located in Fort Canje next to the Canje Bridge and a short distance away from the current New Amsterdam Hospital, while the second will be located at Number 75 Village, Corentyne.
Regional Chairman David Armogan, had said that a major three-storey hospital will be built at the Fort Canje location, in line with “first world standards.” He had said that the area was being cleared and prepared for the commencement of construction; “very shortly you will see major works starting there
“They will probably do things like open-heart surgeries. They will do kidney transplants, and some of the major operations that we don’t currently do in Guyana right now, or some of which are being done at [Georgetown Public Hospital] GPH. A lot of those services will also be done right here in New Amsterdam when that hospital is completed.”
On Friday, Minister of Health, Dr. Frank Anthony and his team visited the region where the New Amsterdam location was handed over to the contractor to commence works, Stabroek News was told.
