A 17-year-old Mabaruma resident is missing and presumed drowned after falling into the Kaituma River.
The missing teen has been identified as Saffie Daniels of Mabaruma Settlement North-West District, Region One.
The incident reportedly occurred at about 16.30 hours, on Tuesday, on the Middle Kaituma River, North-West District.
According to police, Wesley Daniels, and his son, Saffie Daniels, the only occupants of a small boat were returning from Port Kaituma, on the Kaituma River at a normal rate of speed.
Sometime during the journey, the small vessel was struck by the wash of a larger vessel passing in the opposite direction. This caused the boat to rock uncontrollably and Saffie Daniels, who was in the bow fell overboard and never surfaced.
His father immediately began searching for him without success. The matter was eventually reported to the police at Mabaruma.
A search ensued immediately in the area but the teen still could not be found. rch and investigation continue.
