Ali’s participation will show how far he will go for the Caribbean to remain a zone of peace

Dear Editor,

President Irfaan Ali is attending the meeting hosted by Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves with the support and blessings of the entire nation and that of CARICOM and the international community. Whatever the outcome of the conversation, it will be a win-win situation for Guyana. President Ali has been a consistent advocate for regional peace and stability and his participation at the meeting will demonstrate that he is prepared to go the full distance to ensure that the Caribbean remain a zone of peace.

The President has made it abundantly clear that no discussions will be entertained on the border controversy which is properly before the International Court of Justice (ICJ). This point was made explicitly clear in a letter to the meeting host, Dr. Ralph Gonsalves in light of recent comments by President Maduro to the contrary. President Ali is going to the meeting with the full backing of the Guyanese people and the global community. As mentioned before, regardless of the outcome, it will be a win for Guyana.

Sincerely,

Hydar Ally
