Golden Stars, Gorillas advance in ‘One Guyana’ Beach Championship

Golden Stars, Gorillas, Dyke Ballers, and Hururu recorded contrasting wins when the ‘One Guyana’ King and Queen Beach Football Championship continued last night at the PPP office compound in Mackenzie, Linden.

Golden Stars A mauled Fearless 8-1. Kenneth James registered six conversions in the first, 13th, 14th, 18th, 21st, and 22nd minutes, while Joel Daw added a brace in the 16th and 23rd minutes. For the loser, Norlan Moses netted in the 24th minute.

Similarly, the Dyke Ballers crushed the Hillside Ballers 5-1. Jamal Yaw bagged a double in the 13th and 15th minutes, while Dwayne Mitchell added a brace in the 22nd and 24th minutes. Adding a goal in the seventh minute was Deshawn Yaw. For the loser, Renick Lancaster scored in the 17th minute.

On the other hand, the Gorillas dismissed the DH Ballers 2-0. Shaka Lewis and Shaqueel Frank scored in the fifth and 21st minutes, respectively. Hururu bested Bad Boys 2-1, led by a double from Delon France in the 11th and 22nd minutes. On target in the loss was Ezekiel Clarke in the sixth minute. Meanwhile, Platinum Side edged Universal Ballers 1-0. Kristian Lewis netted in the 22nd minute. Also, Goal is Money defeated the Young Ballers via walkover, while the Presidential and LA Ballers played to a scoreless draw.

The event will have approximately 52 male teams and 12 female teams. No registration is required to compete, with over $3,000,000 in prizes set to be awarded. The other playing nights are tomorrow, January 16th, 20th, 22nd, 26th, and 29th, with the final slated for January 6th, 2024.
