Police are investigating the accident that claimed the lives of two men on the Diamond Access Road, East Bank Demerara on Thursday night.
The accident occurred at around 11.20 pm on Thursday on Diamond Access Road, East Bank Demerara and claimed the lives of motorcyclist, Ashton Mc Curdy, and pillion rider, Mark Green.
It involved lorry – GAF 2356 – owned by Michael Monroe, a 28-year-old businessman of Diamond Housing Scheme and driven at the time by Hitram Basmattie, a 55-year-old truck driver from Timehri; and a motorcycle – CL9127 – owned by Trevor Hunte, a 48-year-old security guard of Grove Housing Scheme and ridden at the time by Mc Curdy of Lot 243 Second Street, Grove, East Bank Demerara. The pillion rider was Green, a 31-year-old labourer of Lot 250 Nazarene Street, Grove Housing Scheme.
Enquiries revealed that the lorry was proceeding west on Diamond Access Road when the motorcycle which was proceeding south on the first bridge failed to stop at the intersection. As a result, the motorcycle collided with the right-side rear wheel of the lorry, causing both the rider and the pillion rider to fall on the roadway.
Both Green and Mc Curdy were rushed to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre where they were pronounced dead on arrival. The bodies were then taken to the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, to await post-mortem examinations.
It is alleged by the owner of the motorcycle that he parked his bike at a shop in Diamond and the two men took it from him and rode away.
