The Guyana Police Force had said that aided by CCTV cameras from the Sunset Hotel in Georgetown, the prime suspect in the murder of Lall was her husband Appadu. Lall was murdered between 17:50 hours on Saturday 11th November and 12:15 hours Sunday 12th November.
The police report said that Lall, of Kilcoy, Chesney and an identifiable companion had checked in at the hotel and were handed the keys to a room. They were told that checkout time would be at 12 noon the following day. Khersattie Bettencourt, the proprietor of Sunset Hotel also confirmed that about at 8.07 pm on Saturday, the identifiable male exited the room alone and left the hotel.
The receptionist at the hotel stated that at about 07:00 hrs Sunday morning, she reported for work and took over duties from another receptionist. She checked the overnight sheet and observed that eleven persons had to check out of the hotel at 12:00 noon and at about 12:15hrs, she noted that Lall had not checked out. The receptionist said she decided to check the room. She knocked on the door and called out but got no answer. She then took a spare key, opened the door, and saw the victim lying motionless on the floor, naked. She immediately informed the owner and later called the police. When the police visited the murder scene, a broken Guinness bottle and a 592 beer bottle were observed on the floor and blood stains on the bed and walls of the room.
