Dear Editor,
The President and Volunteers at Furever Hope Alive Animal Shelter & Rescue have organized a march to raise awareness regarding animal suffering and animal rights amongst fellow Guyanese. The march will take place on Sunday, December 17 starting at 07:00 AM. The March starts off at the Umana Yana, opposite the Pegasus Hotel, and participants are asked to assemble at the Umana Yana by 06.55 AM for the kickoff of the march. We are kindly asking for media coverage of this event. The purpose of the march is to raise awareness regarding the plight of animals in Guyana and the need to be more compassionate towards all sentient beings. The March organizers hope to highlight the need to educate Guyanese regarding animal birth control (spaying, neutering) which will help to manage the stray animal population, in a manner that is analogous to human birth control which is used in human family planning.
Additionally, the organizers would like to stimulate the discussion about the need to educate Guyanese on issues such as animal abuse, proper care for animals, and the need to have animals spayed and/or neutered. They are hoping to raise awareness that straying and dumping of animals is not an answer as it causes additional suffering to the animals, and additional expenses to rescue organizations who volunteer to rescue sick and abandoned animals and whose finances are already stretched due to the paucity of incoming donations. There is a better solution to managing the stray population and that lies in education, animal birth control and compassion for animals. Furever Hope Alive is appealing to fellow Guyanese, whether you are an animal lover or just a supporter of such efforts, to come out and support this worthy cause and to lend your support for animal welfare and animal rights. If you do need further information, please do not hesitate to contact me at 592-615-2618.
Sincerely,
Allan Cameron
