Action in the Demerara Cricket Board’s (DCB) Inter-Association continued yesterday with the Upper Demerara/Select XI team inflicting another heavy defeat on a hapless East Bank Demerara team courtesy of 4-fer from spinner Anek Haimnarine..
Playing at the Farm Ground on the East Bank of Demerara, the hosts took first strike and much like on Thursday where they were bowled out for 22 at the hands of the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA), they yet again could not put together a total of substance. They were bowled out for 66 in 19.3 overs.
In fact, only three batsmen could reach double figures; Jasane Craig (16), Dilshan Latchman (15) and Ravindra Singh (14) helped their side past fifty.
Haimnarine with his guileful offspin, plucked out the core of East Bank’s batting order and ended with miserly figures of 4 for 4 from 4 overs inclusive of a maiden. He found useful support from Prosper Jacobus (2/18 from 5 overs), Joshua Bollers who had remarkable figures of 2 wickets without conceding a single run in three overs while Akeem Persaud finished with 1/16 from his three overs.
In reply, chasing a paltry 67 for victory, the Upper Demerara lads suffered three casualties but eventually secured a much needed win in 12.4 overs. Jermaine Grovesner showed a glimpse of his quality and top scored with 21 inclusive of four boundaries before he lost his wicket, Julian Craig (10) and Mickel Johnson (9) were the other two wickets to fall as Jasane Craig (1/18 from 4 overs) and Ravindra Singh (1/16 from 2.4 overs) got their names in the wickets column.
The fifth and final round of the competition will take place next Tuesday (December 19) with GCA going up against East Coast Demerara at a venue to be confirmed and West Demerara vs the UDCA/Select XI at the Meter Meer Zorg Ground East Bank drawing a bye.
