Forty-nine-year-old Carlton Charles appeared yesterday before Magistrate Rhondel Weever at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court charged with possession of narcotics.
It was alleged that on December 14, 2023, while on John Street, Campbellville, Georgetown he had in his possession some 27.8 grammes of cocaine. He plead not guilty to the charge.
Attorney-at-Law Darren Wade, representing Charles, told the court that Charles who is a truck driver by profession was driving his cousin’s car on the day in question. Shots were fired by CANU agents at the vehicle after which he ran out of the vehicle and made his way to the Kitty police station where he filed a report. Wade called the actions by CANU ‘reckless’ telling the magistrate that he visited their headquarters and was able to see the amount of narcotic found was a small amount in a plastic bag.
The magistrate granted Charles bail in the sum of $60,000 with the condition that he report to the police station every fortnight while the matter is before the courts. His next court appearance will be on January 22, 2024, for statements and fixture.
