Forty-two-year-old Terrence Richards appear-ed before Chief Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus at the Georgetown Magis-trate’s Court yesterday where he was charged with attempted murder.
It is alleged that on December 15, while in the Tucville Squatting Area, Richards unlawfully and maliciously wounded Ray Petrie with the intent to murder him.
The court heard that on the day in question Petrie was playing music in his home which annoyed the Richards, and as a result they had an exchange of words.
Petrie subsequently secured his home with the intent of making his way to work and while in his yard, Richards, who was armed with a cutlass, made his way over and attacked Petrie chopping him several times about his body.
Petrie tried to run but stumbled and fell and Richards continued to attack him.
Neighbours and public-spirited persons rushed to Petrie’s aid and rushed him to hospital where he remains a patient in the male surgical ward.
The prosecutor told the magistrate that the state is in possession of an audio-visual recording of an interview with the accused where he admitted to the offence and also turned in the alleged weapon that was used.
The magistrate refused bail and Richards was remanded to prison until his next scheduled hearing on January 25, 2024.
