Candidate Master (CM) Taffin Khan (2005) emerged champion of the Senior National Chess Championship after defeating Loris Nathoo (1703) in a closely fought playoff encounter at the Ocean Spray Hotel in Kitty, Georgetown.
The first and third game produced stalemates, whilst Khan won the second encounter which proved to be vital as he captured the title. With the win, CM Khan claimed his fifth title
The playoff was necessitated after both players ended their encounters in the National Open with nine opponents atop the standings on 7.5 points.
In the playoff, they were required to play three games of Speed Chess, with a total playing time of one hour. Each contender was allotted 15, 10 and five minutes on the clock from the first to the third games, under the watchful eyes of Tournament Arbiter John Lee.
