The Stabroek Ballers continued their meteoric rise on the street-ball circuit as they captured the ‘East Bank vs. the Rest’ Championship by defeating Five 0 by a 2-0 score-line on Saturday evening at the Mocha Community Centre Tarmac.
Darren Benjamin, the eventual Most Valuable Player (MVP), recorded a brace in the eighth and 18th minutes to settle the result. With the result, Stabroek Ballers walked away with $400,000 and the championship trophy, while Five O received $200,000 and the corresponding accolade.
In the third-place match, Sparta Boss downed Family 3-0. Jermin Junior recorded a hat-trick in the ninth, 15th, and 19th minutes, respectively. Due to the outcome, Sparta Boss walked away with $100,000, while the loser received $50,000.
Clayton Reece, Public Relations Officer of the coordinating team, Ballerz Empire, said, “It was a good turnout for the final night; the games were very competitive, even though the scoreline might say otherwise. This is an initiative that we will certainly strive to grow from strength to strength.”
