Diamond murder suspect still on the run, says police

Muammar Jabbar, called ‘Omar Jabbar’, who is wanted for questioning into the Christmas Eve morning shooting death of a Diamond man is still at large, the Guyana Police Force [GPF] said yesterday.

According to a recent police statement, Jabber shot to death 31-year-old Ketezel Bazillo of the new Young Professionals Housing Scheme at Diamond, East Bank Demerara. The GPF had said that Bazillo’s reputed wife, Wanda Jones, related that on December 23, 2023 she was at home decorating the house. She called the suspect, Jabbar of Albouystown, and asked him to bring her some KFC Chicken. Bazillo was not at home and Jones said she allowed Jabbar to stay the night.

However, the GPF release said, Bazillo arrived home at about 4:30hrs December 24th and called Jones to open the front door. She told the police that she hesitated and Bazillo became annoyed and questioned her timing. The release said she then told Bazillo that Jabbar was in the house. After she refused to open the door, the police said, Bazillo went to an eastern bedroom window where he removed several louvre panes and entered the one-flat concrete house through the window. The release said Bazillo then confronted Jabbar who pulled out a handgun and discharged a round at him. After Bazillo fell to the ground, Jabbar shot him again, the release said.  The police found two gunshot wounds on Bazillo’s body, one to the neck and one to the chin area. One .32 spent shell was found in the bedroom. Several broken louvre windows were also seen in the bedroom. Jabbar had been formally charged in June this year with the August 2013 stabbing to death of Tadaskie Marshall also known as ‘Tallo’. His murder trial began at the end of that month and may have ended in his favour given his recent release. Four children, aged 12 to 16 years old, shared the residence with Bazilio and his reputed wife.
