Phillips Adams, 47, a resident of Middle Street, Poudereyen, was on Tuesday admitted to the West Demerara Regional Hospital nursing gunshot wounds after he was allegedly shot by an off duty police rank using a Guyana Police Force issued firearm. The rank is currently in police custody.
Enquiries disclosed that Adams was walking past the suspect’s car at about 15:50hrs on the said day when a dog suddenly ‘attacked’ him. The police said Adams picked up a glass bottle which he used to pelt the dog but which instead struck the suspect’s car. According to the police report, the suspect ran up to Adams, where he withdrew a firearm and allegedly shot Adams once to his lower right-side abdomen. Adams was subsequently rushed to the hospital where he was admitted. His condition is listed as stable.
However, the police made contact with the suspect and when told of the allegation made against him he denied knowing anything about the incident. The rank was cautioned, arrested and escorted to La Grange Police Station where he is assisting with investigations. The firearm was also lodged at the station.
