Rising Stars and Wolves United recorded hard-fought penalty shoot-out wins to seal their respective semi-final berths when the Bartica Football Association (BFA) Yearend Knockout Championship continued at the Community Centre ground.
The Rising Stars overcame the Potaro Strikers 4-3 on penalty kicks after regulation ended 1-1. Prior to the aforesaid conclusion, Alex Jones handed the Rising Stars the initial lead in the 25th minute. However, Kevin Reddy equalised for Potaro, as he found the back of the net in the 49th minute.
In similar fashion, Wolves clawed their way past AK Galaxy 4-3 on penalty kicks, following a 2-2 score at the end of full-time. Earlier in the contest, all four conversions were recorded in the second half. Fenton Wessle pushed the Wolves ahead with a 52nd-minute conversion.
The lead proved to be short-lived, as Samuel Mentore equalised in the 59th minute. The Wolves retook the lead in the 72nd minute as Jacure Thomas made his presence felt. Nonetheless, penalty kicks were then required to decide the outcome, as Romero Pereira restored parity to proceedings in the 88th minute. The tournament continues tomorrow at the same venue.
