Beacons clinch the Bartica Yearend Knockout Football Championship

Beacons won the Bartica Football Association Yearend Knockout Championship, defeating the Rising Stars 5-3 on penalty kicks on Monday evening at the Community Centre ground.

Scoreless at the end of regulation and extra time, penalty kicks were required to decide the outcome. The Beacons were tasked with initiating the penalty shootout and scored. The Rising Stars also converted to level the score at 1-1.

Both teams scored from a distance in the second round to make it 2-2. The Beacons then netted to make it 3-2 to start the third stanza. However, Rising Stars missed from the distance, which allowed the Beacons to maintain their marginal advantage. The fourth round then failed to separate the teams, as they both converted to push the score to 4-3. The Beacons then converted to start the fifth round to seal the title. In the third-place playoff, Rivers View bested Wolves United 2-1. First-half goals from Michael Hendricks and Antonio Jones in the 26th and 43rd minutes, respectively, sealed the outcome. On target with a consolation goal in the 69th minute was Jahcure Thomas.
