Thirty-three-year-old Timothy Anthony Fraser, of ‘C’ Field, Sophia, Georgetown, appeared yesterday before Principal Magistrate Judy Latchman at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court, where he was charged with armed robbery.

It is alleged that on Thursday, November 28, 2023, while at the People’s Choice Supermarket on Mandela Avenue, Georgetown and armed with a gun, he robbed Chinese national, Chen Yi Wen, of $350,000 cash.

Fraser plead not guilty to the charge.

His attorney assured the magistrate that if his client was granted bail, he will appear for his court date. He also emphasised that Fraser was not a flight risk.

However, the prosecution strongly objected to bail and informed the court that Fraser is no stranger to the police having been previously convicted for similar offences.

The court heard that on the day in question at around 19:10 hours, Fraser was seen in the company of another and they were both armed with guns. They entered the People’s Choice Supermarket and held the staff and customers at gun point and demanded cash. When Chen Yi Wen refused, Fraser made his way over the counter and ripped out the cash register. He then removed $350,000 cash and escaped along with his accomplice.

The robbery was recorded on CCTV and the accused was seen clearly and was positively identified by Chen Yi Wen.

The magistrate denied bail and Fraser was remanded to prison pending the report and statements in the matter.

His next court appearance will be on January 24.
