The will to root out this cancer at the ministry is not there

Dear Editor,

It just seems baffling that with known years of corruption and fraud scandals at the ministry, now only one person was fired and to be charged, in the latest round of investigation. It gives the impression the will is not there to root out this cancer at the ministry and signals this person is being used to send a message to others engaged in malpractices. The explanation why more persons could not be disciplined for lack of hard evidence is weak. Isn’t it for law enforcement to conduct the investigation required to unearth the hard evidence? Persons fingered in alleged malpractices should have been sent on administrative leave pending a full investigation. The allegations and scandals derived therefrom will remain a blot on the ministry’s success page.

Sincerely,

Shamshun Mohamed
