Kumar Saul of Lot 13 Leopold Street, Werk-en-Rust, Georgetown, appeared yesterday before Magistrate Delon Bess at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court where he was charged with break and enter and larceny.
It is alleged that between the December 22 and 27, 2023, at East Street, Georgetown, he stole one red cooler valued $15,000, one red tarpaulin valued $22,000, a quantity of drinks valued $6,000, and $50,000 cash, for a total value of $93,000, all belonging to Sherwin Loncke.
Saul was also charged with escaping lawfully custody from the court lockups on January 2, 2024.
The court heard that Loncke, who operates a stall on East Street within the vicinity of the Georgetown Public Hospital, had secured his stall on December 22. When he returned on December 27, he saw that the stall had been broken into and upon checking further, discovered that the aforementioned articles were missing. Eyewitness informed him as to the identity of the thief and after being identified, Saul was arrested by police.
Saul told the magistrate that he did indeed take the tarpaulin and the cooler, but did not steal the drinks.
He also confessed that he was previously convicted.
He pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 9 months for the larceny and 6 months for escaping lawful custody.
