Dear Editor,
While I believe that auditing everyone (especially politicians) to keep their fingers out of the cookie jar is the way to go, the question needs to be asked about whatever happened to the audits instituted by the David Granger Administration? Before the Coalition APNU+AFC came into power (pre-May 2015) they were claiming “corruption, corruption” by the then PPP/C Government. But before they could make such claims they needed to have some evidence of corruption.
After they came into power all they needed to do was to present this evidence to the relevant authority, which in this case was the police/SARA. The problem is that they had no evidence as they had to institute the audits which did not show wholescale skulduggery. They were using the audits to dig for evidence which they did not have. Yet, as they had no evidence why did they make fallacious claims of “corruption, corruption”? Basically, the Coalition APNU+AFC hyped the “belief of corruption” to get into power then started to believe their own propaganda. They lied to the Guyanese public to get elected.
Saying that, Irfaan Ali was charged which was dropped by the police who said that there was no “utility” in pursuing the charges when he became President. The police needs to reopen the case IF there is evidence of corruption. Like I said before, I believe that auditing everyone (especially politicians) to keep their fingers out of the cookie jar is the way to go.
Sincerely,
Sean Ori
