The University of Guyana (UG) yesterday issued a warning with regard to a fake Facebook page, which it said it had flagged as cybercrime.
“The university has flagged this page and its creators as cybercrime. It is not legitimate and has no association with the University of Guyana,” said a notice from UG yesterday alongside the fake page. The Facebook page has since been removed.
UG asked persons to be vigilant and cautious and to not be tricked into divulging their contacts or personal information “since this site might capture and use your personal information for criminal purposes.” It noted that its only official website is –www.uog.edu.gy.
“All official information about UG can be fact-checked there. If it is not there then it is fake,” UG underscored.
Over the years, many organisations and businesses here have been victim to cyber hackers who exploit their employees or customers through fraud and other criminal activity.
