Upset! Monedderlust stuns Slingerz to win Elite League Playoff

GFF President Wayne Forde presents the championship trophy to the captain of Monedderlust FC in the presence of teammates following the team’s victory over Slingerz FC in the Elite League Playoff final.

In what can only be described as a major upset, Monedderlust of Berbice overcame tournament favourite Slingerz FC of West Demerara 1-0 to win the Elite League Playoff yesterday at the Ministry of Education ground, Carifesta Avenue.

Brentnol Frank’s conversion in the fourth minute separated the two teams. Latching onto the ball inside the right of the penalty area, Frank uncorked a powerful strike that settled into the lower right corner despite custodian Akel Clarke getting a hand to the ball.

This lead would remain unchanged heading into the halftime interval. On the other side, the West Demerara outfit almost equalised in the 61st minute, as Simeon Moore, after receiving a cross from the left side inside the centre of the penalty area, blasted his effort onto the crossbar, much to the disbelief of the large gathering.
