Relatives of Ricardo John are still coming to grips with his untimely death which resulted after he was chopped in the chest by his ex-girlfriend’s partner at about 11.30 am on Monday, January 8.
At the time of the incident, John was imbibing at a liquor shop at Lima Sands when a heated argument ensued between the two. It is alleged that there was bad blood between them over a female.
In the midst of the argument, the suspect who was armed with a cutlass at the time, dealt the victim a chop to the chest, then fled the scene. John collapsed and with the assistance of friends and relatives, was rushed to the Suddie Public Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
Swift action by the police led to the arrest of 20-year-old Elroy Matthias also known as ‘Chinieman’ of Good Hope, East Bank Essequibo. He is currently in police custody.
“When we heard we really tried with him, it was like a movie unfolding before our eyes, my nephew was a quiet boy he doesn’t trouble anyone, we are broken having learnt of this,” a relative, Leita Kumar, related.
She said that John would usually support his family financially and his death is a great loss. The relatives, however, were quite satisfied with the efforts of the police in apprehending the suspect.
John’s body is currently at the Suddie Mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination.
