Hogstye/Lancaster NDC protests for more inclusion

Chairman of the Hogstye/Lancaster Neighbourhood Democratic Council (NDC), Sheron Smith along with residents yesterday held a  protest outside of the NDC’s compound calling for more inclusion as they claimed that regional officials are bypassing them in the decision-making process.

Norton calls for cost of living allowance in budget

Leader of the Opposition Aubrey Norton on Thursday called for a Cost of Living Allowance in Monday’s budget and a cutting of the Value-added Tax (VAT) During a press conference, where a statement was read, Norton criticized the government’s “half-hearted” announcement of Budget Day which he feels has not generated any anticipation or excitement among the struggling Guyanese.

Trinidad prison officer killed in gun attack

(Trinidad Guardian) Acting Commissioner of Prisons Deopersad Ramoutar on Thursday evening confirmed that one of his officers had been killed during a gun attack in Arima.  Police said Kendell Smith, who is assigned to the Maximum Security Prison in Arouca, and another person were liming at a house in Samaroo Village, Arima, at 6 pm, when a white Nissan AD Wagon stopped in front.
