Farmer hit by pellet during Phillipai hunting trip

Police are investigating a pellet injury to a farmer during a hunting trip on Sunday in  Phillipai Village, Upper Mazaruni.

The incident resulted in an injury to Jeroam Tony, a 35-year-old farmer,  which resulted in him being flown to the Georgetown Public Hospital for treatment.

The police said in a statement that enquiries revealed that Darrick George, a 35-year-old farmer of Phillipai Village, is a licensed firearm holder of a 20-gauge shotgun.

On Sunday, at about 2 pm, George took his shotgun and left in the company of  Tony for his farm to go hunting. During the trip, George said he observed wild hogs and discharged several shots in their direction which caused a pellet to ricochet and hit Tony to the upper left side of his chest.

Jeroam went home and applied homemade remedies but on Tuesday he complained of feeling pain in the area where the pellet hit, and he started to vomit blood. As such, he visited the Phillipai Health Post where he was seen and examined by a health worker who referred him to the Georgetown Public Hospital.

At about 4 pm on Tuesday, the victim left Phillipai en route to GPHC via private chartered aircraft.

George was escorted to the Kamarang Police Station by the village Toshao.
