The Bank of Nova Scotia in Jamaica has extended its opening hours to accommodate customers inconvenienced by challenges at its Automated Banking Machines (ADM’s) BMs. Scotiabank has committed to keeping the doors of its full-service branches open for an extra hour-and-a-half, once per week, as it seeks to make amends with disgruntled customers who have experienced challenges at its ABM network in recent weeks.” The Stabroek Business is not aware of any such placatory undertakings made by the Bank in Guyana.
The extension of services in Jamaica, according to The Jamaica Observer newspaper, means that it will “extend its opening hours from 2:30 pm to 4:00 pm on Fridays for roughly six weeks… for ‘customers conducting cash withdrawals and deposit transactions.’” The Jamaica operations of Scotiabank is quoted in The Jamaica Observer as stating that “over the past few months” its operations had been “experiencing challenges at our ABM network due to a recurring technical issue.” The report in the Jamaica Observer asserts that “temporary changes are being made at the 15 full-service branches island-wide to accommodate more cash transactions while it works to correct the issue at its ABMs.”
When the Stabroek Business contacted Scotiabank’s Carmichael Street’s Branch, at around 14:00hrs, the newspaper was responded to with a recording (the recording informed that it was ‘the voice of Vibert John’, the Bank’s Branch Manager) stating that the Bank closes at 2 pm.
