The Corentyne man who is the owner of the three pit bulls that attacked and killed Latchminen Permaul at Hampshire Village, Corentyne during the wee hours of Tuesday remains in police custody, Com-mander of Region Six Shivpersaud Bacchus confirmed yesterday.
The incident happened at R&S Street at Hampshire, Corentyne.
A post-mortem examination yesterday by Dr. Brijmohan at the Skeldon Public Hospital Mortuary showed that the cause of death was shock and haemorrhage and multiple lacerations.
Permaul also known as ‘Blackboy’, 63, unemployed, of Lot 249 Hamp-shire, Corentyne, Berbice, while intoxicated, fell asleep on the corner of the road. At the location, the man was attacked by the three dogs.
Permaul’s wife, Sandra Permaul, 61, a housewife, reported that her husband left home around 5 pm on Monday and went to a liquor shop in Toopoo Village, Corentyne, where he imbibed alcohol and became intoxicated.
While returning home in the late hours of the evening, the man reportedly stopped on the corner of the street and fell asleep.
According to the woman, around 5 am on Tuesday, she received information from her son Yoganand Permaul also known as ‘Govinda’, 35, a labourer of Lot 249 Hampshire, that her husband was killed by the three dogs.
The son reported that he was walking up the street when he heard a commotion where he noticed that three pit bull dogs had breached the fence of the yard and were biting Permaul who at that time had appeared to be motionless.
The police were immediately summoned to the scene where they examined Permaul’s body and noticed what appeared to be dog bites on both of Permaul’s legs and his neck. Dog bites were also seen on his right hip and right hand.
Permaul’s body was picked up and escorted to Port Mourant Public Hospital.
Commander Bacchus when contacted yesterday confirmed that the owner of the dog remains in police custody adding that police are “awaiting advice.”
